Girls Volleyball defends title at First Kill Tournament over the weekend

The Emmaus girls volleyball team successfully defended its title at the First Kill Tournament at Freedom High School this Saturday by winning the championship for the second consecutive season.

Head coach Gwen Millets’ team enjoyed an outstanding day as they compiled a 13-2 overall record in the 14-team tournament in defeating District One’s Upper Merion 2-1 (25-23, 18-25, 15-11) in the finals.

Junior Macy Van Den Elzen led the Hornets with a team-high 12 kills to go along with five digs, while sophomore Jaya Bhagat added four kills and five digs. Senior Caroline Bond dished out a team-high 20 assists and eight digs and fellow senior Rebecca Dalstad was next with seven digs and three service aces.
Emmaus had reached the finals after posting an impressive 11-1 record in pool play.

The Hornets swept EPC foes Dieruff (25-8, 25-17), Freedom (25-23, 25-20) and Whitehall (25-13, 25-13), along with Delmarva Christian (25-17, 25-12) and Marian Catholic (25-8, 25-20). Emmaus split with league rival Nazareth (19-25, 25-19).

The Hornets will look to carry the momentum into their EPC opener on Tuesday as they host Northampton at 6:30 p.m.
