An early four-run deficit wasn’t too much for Emmaus to overcome on Thursday afternoon at Church Lane Park as the Hornets picked up their first EPC win of the season with a 6-4 come-from-behind victory over Nazareth.

After the visiting Blue Eagles had scored four runs in the top of first inning, Emmaus outscored the guests 6-0 the rest of the way as they evened their league mark at 1-1 and upped their overall record to 2-1.

Sophomore second baseman Josh Diaz delivered what proved to be the game-winning hit with a one out, bases loaded single in the bottom of the sixth inning breaking a 4-4 tie.

Senior shortstop Aaron Fleetwood led the Hornets going 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBI and two runs scored.  Fleetwood’s RBI single in the sixth proved to be a big insurance run.

On the mound, junior Robbie Barnes picked up his first win of the season in relief of classmate Cole Moreau. The southpaw pitched two scoreless innings while allowing just one hit. Barnes also helped his own cause at the plate with a pair of hits.

For Nazareth, which dropped to 0-2 on the season, Ryan Petruska had two hits and drove in a pair of runs.

Emmaus will return to action next Wednesday, March 26 at 4 p.m. as they travel to Allen.
