>> Senior Luke Deschenes pitched a three-hit shutout leading Emmaus to a 10-0, six-inning win over Pleasant Valley in the opening-round of the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference playoffs on Thursday afternoon at Church Lane Park.
With the win, third-seeded Emmaus improves to 17-4 on the season and they advance to the semifinals where they will face rival and second-seeded Parkland, which advanced with a 4-1 win over seventh-seeded Northampton. The game will be played on Monday at 4 p.m. at DeSales University with The Eastern Pa. Sports Network providing LIVE coverage beginning at 3:40 p.m.
Deschenes picked up his eighth win of the season (8-1) as he struck out five and walked just one as the Hornets defeated the Bears for the second time this season. It was the third shutout of the season for the Hornets right-hander and sixth overall for the Emmaus pitching staff.
Sophomore first baseman Josiah Williams was 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBI and two runs scored, while senior center fielder Jaden Gallagher had a game-high three hits and an RBI. Senior catcher Dom Chiego and classmate third baseman Tyler LePage each drove in two runs.
For Pleasant Valley (14-7) senior Ryan Kymer had two of his team’s three hits.
