RECAP >> After three consecutive rainouts, Emmaus finally returned to action for the first time in 10 days and didn’t show any signs of rust as the Hornets mercy-ruled Whitehall 12-2 in five innings on Thursday afternoon at Church Lane Park.
Head coach Jeremy Haas’ squad avenged for an earlier-season 11-9 loss to the Zephyrs and continued its winning ways as they posted their sixth straight victory in improving to 12-5 overall and 11-3 in the EPC and all but wrapping up a top four seed in the upcoming league playoffs.
In yesterday’s win, Emmaus scored runs in all but one inning and pounded on 12 hits off of four Whitehall pitchers. Junior Colin Wilson had a big day at the plate with a career-high five RBI on two hits, including his first home run of the season in the fifth inning. Classmate Noah Hogan led all hitters’ on the day going 3-for-4 with three runs scored, while juniors Wiley Fleck and Emmit Budick along with senior Zach McEllroy all had two hits.
On the mound, three Emmaus pitchers combined on a five-hitter. Junior Shane Ohl made his fifth start of the season and picked up the victory as he improved to 3-1 after going just 1 2-3 innings of work. Seniors TJ Geist and Ryan Latchford threw in relief.
For Whitehall (9-6 EPC/9-9 overall) senior Jace Duld went 1-for-2 at the plate and drove in both of his team’s runs in the first inning. Junior Dylan Carfara was the only Zephyr player with multiple hits going 2-for-3. Carfara suffered the loss on the mound after giving up six runs on seven hits in just two innings.
Emmaus will return to action this weekend with a pair of road games. On Saturday, the Hornets will travel to Allen and then on Sunday a trip to rival Parkland. Both games are scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
