Baseball – Hornets big build early lead, hold on late for 8-6 road win at Pleasant Valley

RECAP >> Emmaus built a big early lead on a windy afternoon Tuesday at Pleasant Valley jumping out to a 6-0 lead before hanging on for a much-needed 8-6 victory over the Bears.

The Hornets pounded out 12 hits in the game off two Pleasant Valley pitchers as they improved to 6-3 in the EPC and 7-5 overall.

Junior catcher Dayne Schmidt led the offense going 3-for-4 at the plate, while fellow juniors third baseman Chad Kauffman and outfielder Colin Wilson each had two hits. Junior right fielder Noah Hogan had two RBI in the win.

On the mound, junior Shane Ohl picked up his first career varsity win scattering six runs on eight hits in 5 1-3 innings of work. Senior TJ Geist picked up the save in relief.

Pleasant Valley (6-5 EPC/7-6 overall) was led on offense by catcher Maverick Walsh who drove in a game-high four runs. Starting pitcher Ben Mostosky suffered the loss after giving up six runs in just two innings.

Emmaus will return to action at 4 p.m. on Wednesday as they return home to host Easton (4-5, 4-6).
