Baseball – Hornets drop their third straight game falling to Twin Valley 8-3.

After starting the season with a pair of victories, it’s been a tough go of it of late for Emmaus.

Runs, or a lack thereof, and errors have contributed to three straight losses for head coach Jeremy Haas’ team who dropped to 2-3 on the season.

During its losing skid, the Hornets have scored just five runs while allowing 19. They’ve also hurt themselves in the field, committing eight errors.

The latest setback came on Saturday afternoon in a 8-3 non-league road loss against Berks County foe Twin Valley.

Emmaus fell behind early in the game and managed just four hits, while three errors also proved costly as the Hornets fell to the Raiders for the second consecutive season.

Twin Valley jumped on starter Shane Ohl for four runs in the bottom of the first inning and the Raiders scored in all but two innings, pounding on 11 hits off of three Emmaus pitchers.

Leadoff hitter senior Roman Cieless led the offense going 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Sophomore third baseman Nate Lord and junior catcher Logan Crunkleton both had two hits and drove in two runs, while junior second baseman Ben Vaughan also had pair of hits for the Raiders who won their first game of the season in improving to 1-2.

On the mound, seniors Owen Rhoads and reliever Jon Oxendine combined on a four-hitter while striking out 10.

For Emmaus, senior second baseman Cohen Schadler went 1-for-3 with an RBI, while designated hitter Wiley Fleck was 1-for-2 with two runs scored.

Ohl suffered his first loss on the mound after giving up six runs on eight hits in five innings of work.

Emmaus will return to league play on Tuesday at 4 p.m. as they host defending EPC and District XI champ Liberty. The game will be aired LIVE on The Eastern Pa. Sports Network beginning at 3:45 p.m.
