RECAP >> The Emmaus bats came alive on a windy and blustery day Thursday afternoon at Whitehall as the Hornets snapped a three-game losing streak with an 18-3 mercy rule win over the Zephyrs.
Emmaus posted a season-high for runs in a game, pounding out 15 hits as they needed just three innings to defeat Whitehall for the second time this season in improving to 11-2 in the EPC and 13-3 overall.
The offense was led by senior third baseman Tyler Lepage (3-for-4, 3 RBI, HR), senior center fielder Jaden Gallagher (3-for-4, 3 RBI) and first baseman Josiah Williams (3-for-3, 2 RBI). Junior left fielder Zach McEllroy also had a multi-hit game (2-for-3, 2 RBI) and senior shortstop Anthony Viola and sophomore right fielder Colin Wilson each drove in two runs.
On the mound, senior Colin Foley improved to 4-1 on the season. The right-hander gave up three first-inning runs but then held Whitehall scoreless over the next two innings as he scattered five hits and struck out four in his 58-pitch effort.
Whitehall, winners of four straight, dropped to 6-4 in the league 6-6 overall. Starter sophomore Evan Kovalcik was roughed up for 13 runs on nine hits in just 1 1/3 innings of work.
Emmaus will be back in action on Sunday at 2 p.m. as they face rival Parkland at Coca-Cola Park. The game will be carried LIVE on www.easternpasportsnetwork.com beginning with the pregame show at 2 p.m.
