RECAP >> A five-run fourth inning proved to be the difference on Thursday at Church Lane Park as Emmaus pulled away from Central Catholic and earned an 11-5 victory over the Vikings.
The Hornets, who outhit Central Catholic 14-3 in the game, scored runs in the first three innings and led 4-0 before the Vikes rallied to tie the game at 4-4. Emmaus then put the game away scoring five runs in bottom half of the inning and adding two more in the sixth.
The win helped the Hornets improve to 5-1 in the EPC and 6-2 overall, while the Vikes dropped to 2-5 in the league and 2-7 overall.
Five different Emmaus players had multiple hits in the win. Junior left fielder Matt Madigan drove in three runs and went 2-for-3 at the plate, senior pitcher Kellan Tulio had a game-high three hits and two RBI, junior catcher Jadon Diaz was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI, senior first baseman Brandon Robinson was also 2-for-4 with two runs scored, and senior center fielder Cameron Brooks also had two hits in the win.
Sophomore Braden Waller picked up the win in relief and earned his third win (3-1) of the season. The southpaw allowed no hits and struck out three in two innings after starter Tulio went four innings and gave up four runs on three hits and walked seven.
Central Catholic was led by first baseman Josh Larock who drove in two runs and went 1-for-3 at the plate.
Emmaus will be back in action on Friday as they return to Church Lane Park hosting Pocono Mountain East. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
