Tanner Karwacki’s career day at the plate and the pitching of Robbie Barnes helped lead Emmaus to a much-needed 9-2 win over Pocono Mountain East this afternoon in a game played at East Stroudsburg University’s Creekview Park.

Karwacki, a freshman center fielder who started the season on the JV roster before being brought up to varsity, went 4-for-4 at the plate with a grand slam and a career-high five RBI to lead the Hornets offense.

Meanwhile, Barnes, a junior, tossed a three-hitter over 5 1/3 innings allowing just a pair of first inning runs as he improved to 2-0 on the season. Barnes also helped his own cause at the plate with three hits in the game.

The victory snapped a two-game losing streak for head coach Jeremy Haas’ squad who improved to 6-4 overall and 5-3 in the EPC.

Also in the win, senior first baseman Drew McGeehan had a big day for the Hornets going 3-for-4 with a triple.

The Cardinals were led by sophomore designated hitter Brayden Smith who had two hits. On the mound, starter senior Camryn Sopko suffered the loss after getting touched up for five runs on eight hits. PME lost its third straight game as they dropped to 5-4 on the season.

The Hornets will return to action on Monday at 4 p.m. as they host Bethlehem Catholic at Church Lane Park.
