Baseball (Legion) – Chiego’s arm, bat highlight Lower Mac’s win over previously undefeated South Parkland; Emmaus nearly picks up first win of season in one-run loss to Solehi

RECAP >> Lower Mac picked up its biggest win of the season in a 10-0 win over previously-unbeaten South Parkland, while Emmaus came up one run short in claiming their first win in a 5-4 defeat last night in Lehigh Valley Legion baseball action.

At Parkland High School, Dominick Chiego was stellar both on the mound at the plate as he led Lower Mac to an surprisingly easy win that was ended by the 10-run rule in six innings.

In his first start of the season on the mound, Chiego limited the Trojans to just three hits in the game while striking out 11, and at the plate he helped his own cause going 3-for-3 with two RBI as Lower Mac improved to 9-4-1 on the season. LM also avenged for an earlier-season 11-1 loss to South Parkland back on June 9.

In the win, centerfielder Jackson Merk went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored for Lower Mac which outhit the Trojans 9-3.

South Parkland (16-1) was led by center fielder Austin Klotz who had two hits. Starter Kurt Meehan suffered the loss after giving up four runs in just three innings of work.

Lower Mac will close out its regular-season tonight at home as they host Salisbury at 6 p.m.

At Limeport, Emmaus nearly pulled off its first win of the season as they were tied with Solehi at 4-4 in the sixth inning, but it was the Spartans who were able to push across a run in the bottom of the frame to keep the Hornets winless on the season.

Emmaus (0-16) had one of its best hitting nights of the season as they outhit Solehi 10-6 in the game.

First baseman Nate Sauter had a big game going 4-for-5 while third baseman Kaden Zacharda added a pair of hits.
