RECAP >> Emmaus’ offense exploded for a season-high runs and hits in a game on Sunday night as they went on the run and picked up a much-needed 15-6 upset win over Carbon.

Head coach Ryan Schaffer’s team pounded out 14 hits and rallied from a late 6-4 deficit by scoring 11 runs in the last two innings to snap their three-game losing streak and improve to 3-5 on the season. They also avenged an earlier-season 9-1 loss to Carbon back on June 7 at Community Park.

Center fielder Austin McEllroy led the offense going 3-for-5 with two triples and four RBI. Left fielder Brendon Ward also had a big day going 3-for-4 with three RBI, shortstop Matt Madigan went 2-for-4 with two RBI and three runs scored, and starting pitcher Jimmy Braxmeier also had two hits, two RBI and scored four times.

Braxmeier improved to 3-1 on the season after allowing six runs on seven hits in six innings of work. He struck out four and walked three. McEllroy pitched a scoreless seventh inning.

Carbon, which dropped to 4-3 on the season, had nine hits in the game and was led by shortstop Nate Snisky who went 2-for-3 with two walks and two runs scored. Starter Brad Buzzard drove in three runs with a triple as part of five-run second inning as Carbon jumped out to a 6-2 lead after Emmaus had scored a pair of runs in the top of the first inning.

Reliever David Berger suffered the loss after he was roughed up for 11 runs on 10 hits in just three innings of work.

Carbon had a player ejected late in the game and was forced to play with eight players the rest of the way.

Emmaus will be right back in action at 6 p.m. tonight as they travel to Allentown. The game will be played at Scherersville #5 field.
