RECAP >> Lower Mac bounced back from a season-opening loss with a doubleheader sweep on Sunday as the ‘Mighty Macs’ defeated both Southern Lehigh and Allentown in Lehigh Valley Legion Baseball action.
In Game 1, pitcher TJ Geist threw a gem as he struck out 11 and two first inning runs would be all the offense Lower Mac would need as they shutout Southern Lehigh 2-0.
Geist went six innings and scattered four hits to pick up the win before Ryan Latchford came on in the seventh to earn the save.
Lower Mac won despite being outhit 4-3 in the game. Latchford, Taylor Davis and Zach Heller each had one hit for the winners.
Southern Lehigh’s Patrick Laughlin had two hits for the Spartans who dropped to 0-2 on the season. Austin Bonde pitched well in defeat striking out eight and allowing just three hits.
In Game 2, Lower Mac picked up its second win of the day as they defeated Allentown 3-1.
Joe Cook picked up his first win on the mound, while Latchford once again came on to earn the save with two innings of work in the sixth and seventh.
Lower Mac (2-1) will be back in action on Monday at 6 p.m. as they host Northern Valley at Church Lane Park. It will be the first of six straight games in as many days for head coach Jeff Smith’s team.
