Baseball – Moreau shines on the mound as Hornets beat Freedom 6-2 to move to 4-0 in the EPC

RECAP >>  Freshman Cole Moreau allowed just one run in 4 2-3 innings of work and his teammates backed him with an early lead that they never relinquished as Emmaus went on the road and defeated Freedom 6-2 on a windy afternoon in Bethlehem. For his efforts, Moreau was named the SportClips Player of the Game on the Eastern Pa. Sports Network’s LIVE coverage.

In his second start of the season, Moreau (2-0) struck out a career-high nine and walked just three as he repeatedly worked out of jams in helping keep the Hornets remain one of three unbeatens in the EPC – along with both Nazareth and Whitehall – as they improved to 4-0 in the league and 5-1 overall.

Emmaus used a five-run second inning that proved to be the difference as they sent nine batters to the plate and chased Freedom starter senior Ryan Hoffman.

Junior right fielder Noah Hogan had two hits and a pair of RBI in the win, while fellow junior left fielder Wiley Fleck also had two hits. Senior first baseman Zach McEllroy drove in two runs.

Junior Shane Ohl came on in the fifth in relief of Moreau and threw 1 1-3 inning of scoreless ball before giving way to senior TJ Geist who closed it out in the seventh.

Freedom, which dropped to 3-2 in the EPC and 3-4 overall, scored its only run of the game in the bottom of the first inning on senior Kevin Kullman’s RBI single.

Emmaus will return to action on Wednesday at 4 p.m. as they travel to Northampton.
