RECAP >> Visiting Whitehall used a seven-run, second inning to spoil Emmaus’ Senior Night on Wednesday night at Community Park as the Zephyrs handed the struggling Hornets a 9-3 setback.
The loss was the third straight and fifth in the last seven games for Emmaus which saw its overall record dip to 10-7 on the season and 9-5 overall.
Hornets starter senior Kellan Tulio, who was coming off a solid 13 strikeout, no-hit effort in five innings against Allen last week, suffered the loss and dropped to 2-2 on the season after lasting just 1 2-3 innings in his shortest outing of the season. The southpaw gave up seven runs on just one hit and struggled with control issuing six walks and hit two batsmen.
Meanwhile, his counterpart junior Joe Lisicky was efficient in picking up the win for Whitehall, going 5 1/3 innings and surrendering just three hits while striking out five and walking four.
Emmaus was held to a season-low three hits in the game, and the offense continues to struggle late in the season with just a combined nine runs scored in its last three games.
Catcher Keegan Nytz, designated hitter Tyler Ritter and and left fielder Austin McEllroy were the only Hornets with hits in the loss.
Whitehall senior Andrew Snyder and sophomore Owen Fischl both went 1-for-3 with two RBI. Senior Ben Hudak was 1-for-2 with two runs scored. The Zephyrs improved to 7-6 in the EPC and evened their overall mark at 8-8.
A ceremony was held to honor Emmaus’ 13 seniors – Keegan Nytz, Everett Horton, Robert Church, Ian Kauffman, Cam Brooks, Dylan Lehman, Jaime Hamilton, Austin McEllroy, Kellan Tulio, Brandon Robinson, Justus Darville, Tyler Ritter and manager Nate Moore.
Emmaus will look to bounce back on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. as they make the short trek up Cedar Crest Boulevard to take on rival Parkland for the second time this season.
Live coverage of the game will be streamed on www.pennsportsradio.com beginning with the pregame show at 6:15 p.m.
