Baseball – Tulio does it all for the Hornets as he leads team to second consecutive shutout, 2-0 over Northampton (Updated story)

RECAP >> Senior Kellan Tulio did it all for Emmaus on Thursday afternoon at Church Lane Park in leading the Hornets past Northampton.

The hard-throwing left-hander pitched six innings of no hit ball and and he also drove in his team’s only runs of the game as the Hornets won their second consecutive 2-0 game of the week.

“Kellan did a phenomenal job of getting ahead and staying ahead,” said first year head coach Jeremy Haas. ” When he is at his best, he is attacking the zone and dictating the at bats.  He did exactly what his team needed him to do. “

The victory improves Emmaus to 2-0 on the season and it was the second shutout for the Hornets pitching staff who also blanked Nazareth earlier this week.

Tulio was dominant on the mound as he carried a perfect game into the sixth inning before issuing a walk . He finished the day with 12 strikeouts before giving way to Jude Negron who pitched the seventh and allowed the only hit of the game, a double to designated hitter senior Terry Graver.

Tulio (1-0) helped his own cause in the bottom of the first inning as lined a two-run double scoring lead-off hitter shortstop Keegan Nytz and third baseman Wyatt Henseler. Tulio finished the day 2-for-3 at the plate for the Hornets who managed just five hits in the game.

Northampton starter Cole Rufe was the hard-luck loser, allowing just a pair of runs on five hits in five innings of work. The K-Kids have managed just one hit in their first two games after being no hit by Parkland on Tuesday.

Negron, Brandon Robinson and Cameron Brooks had Emmaus’ only other hits in the contest.

The Hornets will return to action at 1 p.m. on Saturday as they hit the road for the first time this season travelling to Pottsville for a non-league game.
