Baseball – Whitehall uses late-game rally to send Hornets to third straight defeat, 11-9

RECAP >>  Emmaus let a three-run lead slip away on Monday afternoon at Whitehall as the Zephyrs rallied for an 11-9 victory, sending the Hornets to their third straight loss.

After trailing after three innings 5-1, Emmaus was able to rally with a seven-run fourth inning to take an 8-5 lead, but Whitehall responded with six runs in the bottom of the fifth to pull out the victory.

The Hornets, who were hurt with five errors in the game, dropped to 5-4 overall and 4-2 in the EPC, meanwhile the Zephyrs improved to 5-2 and 5-1 in the league. 

In the loss, junior Wiley Fleck and senior Zach McEllroy each had two hits and drove in two runs , while junior Emmit Budick had three RBI.

Senior TJ Geist suffered the loss on the mound for the Hornets giving up four runs on two hits in relief of starter freshman Cole Moreau who allowed seven runs on four hits in 4 1-3 innings.

For Whitehall, senior Owen Ness went 2-for-4 at the plate with four RBI and home run. Junior Dylan Carfara and senior Dylan Koury each drove in two runs. On the mound, sophomore Matt Rader picked up the win in relief of starter junior Evan Kovalcik who allowed seven runs on five hits in 3 2-3 innings.

Emmaus will look to get back into the win column at 4 p.m. today as they host Pocono Mountain West (3-4 EPC/3-5 overall).
