Emmaus held off a late Dieruff fourth quarter charge last night to remain undefeated in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference (EPC), defeating the Huskies 49-42 in a game played on the east side of Allentown.
The win was the fourth straight for Emmaus, which is off to a 7-1 overall start to the season for the second time in the last three years. The Hornets also remained one of just three unbeatens (along with both Easton and Parkland) to improve to 6-0 in league play.
Emmaus had a balanced scoring attack with senior Sofia Laid matching her career-high with 12 points, while sophomore Kayla Snyder also had 12. Junior Gabby DeVita added nine points in the win and senior Sylvia Sokolofksi also added a season-high nine for the Hornets, who outscored Dieruff in three of the four quarters.
Dieruff had three players reach double figures with Jayla Rosario scoring a game-high 16 points, while Justyce McChristian and Aniya Holder added 11 and 10 points, respectively for the Huskies who dropped to 5-3 in the EPC and 6-3 overall.
The Hornets will next return to action on Friday, December 27 when they travel to Easton Area Middle School to take on Phillipsburg at 3 p.m. as part of the 28th Annual Jack Bennett Easton Rotary Club Basketball Tournament. The other two teams competing in the two-day event include the host school, Easton, and Freedom.
