Emmaus 48, CCHS 46 (Boys)
At Emmaus, junior Matt Rooney matched his career-high for points in a game with 20 as head coach Eric Luckenbill’s team played one of their better games of the season, surprising rival Central Catholic before one of the largest crowds at ‘The Hive.’
The Hornets, who were coming off of a pair of difficult losses to both Bethlehem Catholic and Whitehall last week, drained a season-high nine 3-pointers in the game as they picked up a much-needed win, improving to 7-9 overall and 5-7 in the EPC as they pursuit their quest of reaching the post-season.
Rooney, who was named the Player of The Game on The Eastern Pa Sports Network’s LIVE coverage, had four of those 3-pointers and scored 12 of his points in the second half as Emmaus rallied from a five-point deficit after three quarters to pull out the victory.
Sophomore Noeah Newsome scored eight of his 11 points in the second half, while junior Jacob Ross added eight in the victory for the Hornets who avenged for an earlier-season 18-point loss (62-44) to the Vikes back on December 1 at Rockne Hall.
Central Catholic was paced by senior Jared Ford who had a team-high 13 points. Junior Yariel Gonzalez added 12 points and teammates Cam Hines and DiQuian Leak had eight apiece for the Vikings, who dropped their third straight game in falling to 7-5 in the league and 10-8 overall.
Emmaus will return to the hardwood on Thursday at 6:45 p.m. as they travel to Southern Lehigh for a non-league game. The Hornets will be looking for revenge after falling to the Spartans at home last season, 70-59.

At Rockne Hall, the Hornets got a much stiffer test from the Vikettes then in their previous meeting — a 69-44 win back on December 1 — but Emmaus was still able to prevail to sweep the season series.

Sophomore Gracie Ervin also reached double figures in the win scoring 12 points for Emmaus (11-1 EPC/13-4 overall).
Central Catholic, who entered the game on a four-game win streak, was led in scoring by senior Shamiya Roberts who had a career-high 16 points. Classmate Morgan Seagreaves added 12 for the Vikettes who dropped to 8-4 in the league and 8-10 overall.
