Boys Soccer – Emmaus 5, Whitehall 0

RECAP >> Head coach John Cari couldn’t have asked for a better start to the season from his team as Emmaus totally dominated Whitehall 5-0 last night at Memorial Field.

In a matchup featuring the defending District XI 4A champs (Emmaus) and the 3A champ (Whitehall), it was the Hornets controlling play from the opening whistle, scoring three goals in the first half and adding two more in the second.

Senior Kai Mattern scored a pair of goals in the victory, while classmate Callum Harvey added a goal and an assist for Emmaus, which outshot the Zephyrs 14-1 in the match.

Senior Brayden Dang also found the back of the net with a well-struck, beautifully placed shot from 25 yards out on a direct kick in the 34th minute of play giving the Hornets a 3-0 lead.

Another highlight for Emmaus was junior Gabriel Reyes scoring his first career varsity goal in the second half.

Junior Will Peck picked up the shutout win in goal, turning away the only shot he faced on the night.

Up next for Emmaus will be a road contest at Allen at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Girls Soccer -Emmaus 6, Whitehall 0

RECAP >> Senior Kam McWhinney scored a hat trick in leading the Hornets (2-0 overall/1-0 EPC) to a 6-0 shutout win at Whitehall in the EPC opener for both teams.

Sophomore Lizzie Bender also had a big game dishing out three assists while also scoring a goal for Emmaus.

In goal, senior Ashley Stine (2 saves) and junior Sadie Wallace (1 save) combined on the shutout.

Next up for the Hornets will be a non-league contest on Thursday at 6:15 p.m. at Dallas (Wilkes-Barre area).
