RECAP >> Will Barber put on a one-man show in leading Emmaus to the championship of the 2nd Annual Wilkes-Barre Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday afternoon.
The Hornets senior accounted for more than half of his team’s offensive production pouring in a career-high 33 points as the Hornets beat Mid Valley 60-48 in the title game.
For his efforts, Barber was named the tournament’s MVP and he also surpassed his previous career-high of 31 points in last year’s season opener against Methacton.
Senior Jametric Harris was also named to all tournament team for the Hornets along with Mid Valley’s Demaja Dunston, Holy Redeemer’s George Sabatini and Wilkes-Barre’s Dave Jannuzzi.
Emmaus led by five after one quarter (12-7) and extended their lead to eight (28-20) at the break. The lead grew to as much as 12 (43-31) after three quarters.
Mid Valley, which defeated the host school Wilkes-Barre 60-56 to reach the championship game, was led in scoring by Dunston who had a team-high 17 points. Senior guard Nathan Sadaka added 12 points.
Emmaus (2-0) will open up its Eastern Pennsylvania Conference schedule on Wednesday at 7 p.m. as they travel to Northampton.
