RECAP >> Emmaus built as much as a 12 point first half lead in its season-opening game at home on Friday ‘The Hive’, then held off a furious Dieruff rally late before holding on for a high-scoring 68-65 win over the Huskies. The game was carried LIVE on The Eastern Pa. Sports Network (www.easternpasportsnetwork.com.)
Playing in front of no spectators due to COVID restrictions, senior Danny Bohman sparked the Hornets offense with a game-high 25 points, just one point off his career-high. He had three 3-pointers and scored 15 of his points in the opening quarter as Emmaus raced out to a nine-point lead (23-14).
Classmate Jameel Sanders also shined in the win adding a career-high 17 points, including 13 after halftime. Another senior, Shep Henseler, and junior Meech Rogers both chipped in nine points, while junior Jadis Brevitt came off the bench to add eight.
For Dieruff (0-1), junior Daniel Quiones led the way scoring 12 of his team-high 16 points in the second half. Senior Dalwin Cattouse added 13 and junior Wilmer Sabatar 12 for Marlon ‘JT’ Randall who was making his coaching debut with the Huskies.
Both teams struggled with turnovers throughout the game and both struggled from the free-throw line with Emmaus shooting just 53 percent (18 of 34), while Dieruff wasn’t much better at 56 percent (13 of 23).
The two teams will meet again on Tuesday when the Hornets travel to east Allentown. Opening tip is at 7 p.m.
