Boys Basketball – Fast start fuels Hornets past Holy Redeemer 49-29 and into championship game of the Wilkes-Barre Tournament.

RECAP >> Emmaus jumped out to an early lead against Holy Redeemer last night and were never really challenged the rest of the way as the Hornets won their season-opener, 49-29 over the Royals in the Wilkes-Barre Tip-Off Tournament.

Senior Will Barber led all scorers with a game-high 13 points for head coach Steve Yoder’s team which will face Mid-Valley in Saturday’s 4:30 p.m. championship game. Mid-Valley defeated the hosts 60-56 in the nightcap of the doubleheader.

Junior Mike Rooney had the hot hand early in the game for the Hornets draining three 3-pointers and scoring all nine of his points in the first quarter as the Hornets raced out to a 15-4 at the end of the first quarter.

Emmaus extended its lead to 18 at the half (28-10) before Holy Redeemer battled back cutting the lead to nine after outscoring the Hornets 16-7 in the third quarter. The fourth quarter was dominated by Emmaus outscoring the Royals 14-3.

For Holy Redeemer, senior George Sabitini led the way scoring 10 of his team-high 11 points in the third quarter. Junior Brayden Sock added eight for the Royals who were 20-3 a season ago but lost their entire starting lineup to graduation.
