The early season struggles continued last night for Emmaus at Allen High School’s J. Milo Sewards Gymnasium as the Canaries used a big second half to run away from the Hornets and keep them winless on the season with a 78-52 rout.
First year head coach Jerald Brown’s team dropped its sixth straight game after its worst loss to date following the 26-point defeat.
Emmaus is now 0-6 on the season (0-4 EPC), after allowing 44 points in the second half to Allen who led by just six at the break (30-24).
In the defeat, senior Owen Hafner had a team-high 13 points and seven rebounds, while classmate Matt Deschenes also had a career-best 13-point effort to lead the Hornets. Senior Mike Rooney added eight.
Allen had a balanced scoring attack with four players reaching double figures. Junior Tiheed Wise Jr. led all scorers with a game-high 23 points, seniors Keith Jackson and Emmanuel Polanco each had 15 points and junior Xayvon Wimberly 10 for the Canaries who improved to 3-1 on the season after suffering through a 2-20 campaign a year ago.
Emmaus will return to action on Friday at 7 p.m. as they make the long trip to East Stroudsburg North (1-4 overall/0-3 EPC).
