RECAP >> Two more games and two more wins have the Emmaus boys basketball team feeling really good this holiday season.
Competing in the Spring-Ford Holiday Classic in Royersford the past two nights, the Hornets continued their early-season success as they picked up a pair of wins to remain the lone unbeaten team in the Lehigh Valley improving to 9-0. The 9-0 start matches the one set by the 2015-16 squad.
Head coach Steve Yoder’s team won a thriller over the host school – Spring-Ford out of the Pioneer Athletic Conferennce – 53-49 on Tuesday night, then less than 24 hours later followed that up with a win over Suburban One Conference foe Central Bucks South, 69-55.
In the win over a one-loss Spring-Ford team, Emmaus jumped out to a big early lead and led by as much as 20 points before the Rams rallied late to take the lead in the waning seconds setting up a dramatic finish by the Hornets.
Sophomore Will Barber drained a 3-pointer with 2.8 seconds left to give the Hornets the lead for good at 51-49 and senior Brydon Crawford converted two big free-throws in the waning seconds to preserve the win.
Senior Jadis Brevitt led Emmaus in scoring with a team-high 14 points — 10 coming in the first half, while Barber added 11.
The Hornets lost junior Dylan Darville late in the first quarter to an ankle injury. He didn’t return to the game.
Spring-Ford, which was minus two starters due to illness, was led in scoring by senior Jake Kressley who had a team-high 13-points. The Rams dropped to 5-2 with the loss.
Following up last night’s win and playing shorthanded with Darville out of the lineup, the Hornets once again got off to a quick start tonight against Central Bucks South as they led early and pulled away for a much more comfortable win in a foul fest featuring a combined 64 free-throw attempts.
Barber and Brevitt once again were the catalysts as the two combined for 41 points with both coming up with career-best efforts – Barber 23 and Brevitt 18.
Central Bucks South dropped to 4-3 overall with the loss. The Titans were led in scoring by junior forward Tyler Meinel and senior forward Michael Farley who each had 12 points. Junior guard Chris Granito added 10.
Emmaus won’t return to action until January 4 when they host Freedom at 7 p.m. at The Hive.
