RECAP >> Emmaus’ offense continued to struggle late in the season against Eastern Pennsylvania Conference foes as the Hornets lost to Northampton 45-33 Tuesday night at Northampton High School.
Just five days after scoring a season-low 26 points in a 29-point loss to Central Catholic at home, Emmaus was held to its second-lowest offensive output as they managed just 10 points after halftime as they were defeated by the K-Kids for the second time this season.
The loss dropped the Hornets to 8-4 in league play and into a four-way tie for fifth place with three other teams that also have four losses – Northampton (8-4), Nazareth (7-4) and Allen (7-4). Central Catholic, which suffered its first league loss to Parkland last night, is atop the standings at 11-1 along with Pocono Mountain West (10-1). Parkland (11-2) is third followed by Becahi (9-3) in fourth. The top eight teams will qualify for the league playoffs.
Junior Dylan Darville was the only Emmaus player to reach double figures in the loss as he scored seven of his 10 points in the first half. No other player had more than five points.
Northampton, one of the hottest teams in the league riding a eight-game winning streak, was led by senior Lucas Lesko who had a game-high 17 points — 15 coming in the first half. Classmate Isaac Harris had a big second half scoring 12 of his 14 points as the K-Kids outscored Emmaus 18-10. Sophomore Triston Pinnock also gave Northampton valuable minutes off the bench and added eight points.
The Hornets will look to get back into the win column on Friday as they travel to Whitehall for a 7 p.m. tip time. Emmaus has already defeated the Zephyrs once this season — 49-35.
