RECAP >> Emmaus held off a late Whitehall comeback on Saturday afternoon at ‘The Hive’ and in the process snapped a four-game losing streak as the Hornets kept the Zephyrs winless on the season in a 47-39 low-scoring affair.
The 39 points allowed was a season-best for head coach Steve Yoder’s team, which had given up an average of 61 points in four straight losses to Central Catholic, Allen (twice) and Dieruff. Emmaus is now 2-4 on the season.
Senior Shep Henseler matched his season-high with nine points in the victory to lead the Hornets. Classmate Danny Bohman added eight – all in the first half – as did junior Jadis Brevitt who scored all of his points off the bench.
Emmaus led throughout the first half, leading 13-9 after one quarter and then outscoring Whitehall 14-8 in the second to build as much as a 10-point lead (27-17) at the break. The Zephyrs rallied with a 6-0 run to start the third quarter to cut the deficit to four (27-23) before the Hornets pulled away in the final eight minutes of the game.
Whitehall, which dropped to 0-6, was led in scoring by juniors Tommy Buskirk and Bryce Bashore who each scored nine points.
The two teams will meet again on Tuesday as the Hornets travel to Whitehall at 7 p.m.
