Boys Basketball – Hornets unbeaten no more as hot-shooting Harris and Lesko fuel Northampton to 46-42 upset win handing Emmaus its first loss of the season

RECAP >> As the lone unbeaten boys basketball team in the area with a perfect 10-0 mark, Emmaus had been finding ways to win games during its historic start to this season.

Last night, their luck ran out against an inspired and upset-minded Northamptom team.

The K-Kids, which entered action struggling at just 1-4 in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference and 4-4 overall, put together one of their best efforts to date as they rode the hot-shooting of seniors Isaac Harris and Lucas Lesko to a 46-42 victory before a packed-house at ‘The Hive’ in Emmaus.

Harris had four 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 20 points, while Lesko added 15 as Northampton handed the Hornets their first loss of the season dropping them to 10-1 overall and 5-1 in the league.

Emmaus had an opportunity to clinch a berth in districts with a win, but the K-Kids spoiled that attempt playing inspired ball from the opening tip.

Northampton led 17-12 after one quarter and built as much as a 10-point lead in the first half behind Harris’ 11 points and Lesko’s nine before the Hornets rallied to cut the deficit to two (22-20) at the break. Despite being plagued by numerous turnovers and poor shooting, Emmaus still had a chance as they trailed 32-31 after three quarters, but the K-Kids were able to pull away late and hold on for the four-point win.

Senior Jadis Brevitt led the Hornets in scoring with a team-high 12 points, while sophomore Will Barber added 11 and senior Ryan Santos nine. Junior Dylan Darville returned to the lineup after missing the last two games with an ankle injury. The 42-points scored by Emmaus was a season-low.

Both teams struggled from the free-throw line in the contest. Northampton was a woeful 18 percent (2-for-11), while the Hornets weren’t much better at 33 percent (2-for-6).

Emmaus will look to return to their winning ways next Tuesday as they travel to Pocono Mountain West to take on the Panthers (5-0 EPC/6-2 overall). The game will be carried LIVE on www.easternpasportsnetwork.com beginning with the pregame show at 6:45 p.m.
