Boys Basketball – Matt Rooney leads balanced scoring attack with a career-high 20 as Hornets pick up road win over Dieruff 72-61

Sophomore Matt Rooney drained four 3-pointers and scored a career-high 20 points to lead a balanced scoring for Emmaus in their 72-61 road win at Dieruff last night.

The win was the second for the Hornets over the Huskies this season and snapped a four-game losing streak for head coach Jerald Brown’s team, who improved to 5-9 in the EPC and 5-15 overall. The 72 points also marked a season-high for Emmaus.

Rooney’s effort, which began with a 10-point first quarter, led a season-high four players in double figures for the Hornets. Senior Owen Hafner added 17, while classmates Mike Rooney and Jack Csensits added 16 and 12 points, respectively.

In a losing effort, Dieruff also had a balanced scoring attack. Darnell Walker paced the Huskies with a team-high 19 points, Alphy Deris added 15, while Kareem White chipped in 11 and Derwyn Deris 10. The Huskies dropped their fourth straight game and seven of their last eight as they fell to 1-12 in the EPC and 3-15 overall.

Emmaus will return to the hardwood on Thursday at 7 p.m. as they play their final road game at rival Parkland.
