Boys Basketball – Short-handed Hornets pick up a pair of road wins on back-to-back nights to improve to 4-1 on the season.

Emmaus 51, Dieruff 41 (Friday)

Recap >> Playing without a couple of starters, short-handed Emmaus found itself in a battle on Friday on the road against a Dieruff team that had started the season 2-0 after a pair of victories.

With senior Dylan Darville away on a college visit and classmate Chase Muckey sidelined with an ankle injury, the Hornets led by just three at the halftime break (22-19) and found themselves tied with the Huskies with a little over six minutes remaining in regulation.

But thanks to the second half heroics of junior Will Barber, Emmaus was able to pull away late and pick up a good road win which helped them improve to 2-0 in the EPC and 3-1 overall.

Barber, who was held to just five points in the first half, wound up scoring nearly half of his team’s offensive production by night’s end as he finished with a game-high 25 points, 20 coming in the second half.

Barber was the only Hornet to reach double figures in the win. Junior Jametric Harris, who was coming off a career-high 24 point effort on Tuesday in a win over Allen, chipped in eight points while junior Teague McCourt also played well with six points.

Dieruff suffered its first loss of the season after a pair of wins over Hazleton and Easton. The Huskies (2-1) were led in scoring by Xion Chapman who had 13 points. Jayden Walker chipped in with 10.
