After playing on the road for its first four games of the season, Emmaus returned home to the friendly confines of ‘The Hive’ last night in search of their first win of the season.
Behind a career-high 25-point effort from junior Lucas Stephan and a balanced scoring attack that featured three other players reaching double figures, the Hornets entertained the home fans with a 78-60 non-league victory over Freedom.
The win was the first for new head coach Eric Luckenbill whose team improved to 1-4 on the season. The 78 points was the most for Emmaus since an 80-60 win over East Stroudsburg North back in the 2019-20 season.
Junior Tim Toles scored a career-best 15 points in the win, while classmates Jake Ross and Matt Rooney added 14 and 13 points, respectively, for the Hornets who outscored the Pates in three of the four quarters.
Freedom was led by junior Elijah Zimpfer who had a team-high 23 points. Fellow junior Gabe Reed added 19 and Brody Stellato 12 for the Pates who remained winless on the season (0-5).
The Hornets will return to action on Tuesday at 7 p.m. as they host Allen. The game will be carried LIVE on The Eastern Pa. Sports Network beginning at 6:45 p.m.
