Boys Basketball – Yoder challenges team at halftime, Hornets respond as they move to 10-0 on the season with 46-37 win over Freedom; Junior Charlot provides spark off the bench with double-double

RECAP >> Playing its first game at home in more than two-and-a-half weeks and still the lone unbeaten team in the Lehigh Valley, Emmaus found itself in a battle on Tuesday night at ‘The Hive’ as they found themselves in a battle against upset-minded Freedom.

Trailing at the break after a sluggish first half, head coach Steve Yoder challenged his team in the locker room and the Hornets responded as they got a big performance off the bench from junior Wilson Charlot to pull away late for a low-scoring 46-37 win over the Patriots.

Charlot, who had a scored a total of 15 points through the first nine games of the season, provided the spark Emmaus needed as he registered a double-double, scoring a career-high 15 points to go along with 12 rebounds helping the Hornets remain unbeaten in the EPC (5-0) and overall (10-0). The 10-0 start is the best for Yoder in his 14 years as head coach at EHS.

Senior Jadis Brevitt also reached double figures finishing with 10 points for Emmaus, which was without junior point guard Dylan Darville who missed his second game with an injury and senior Ryan Diehl who was ill.

Freedom, which led 22-20 at the half, was led in scoring by junior Nicholas Ellis who scored 13 of his game-high 17 points in the first half. The Pates dropped to 1-3 in the EPC and 3-5 overall with the loss.

Both teams struggled offensively all night, including from the free-throw line where Emmaus shot just 8-18 (44%) and Freedom 6-12 (50%).

The Hornets will return to action on Friday at 7 p.m. at home as they take on Northampton (4-4/1-4). The game will be carried LIVE on www.easternpasportsnetwork.com beginning with the pregame show at 6:45 p.m.
