
It took overtime, but Emmaus got the job done in earning an important non-league win over Southern Lehigh last night at Memorial Field.
Sophomore Anthony Attar wound up being the hero for the Hornets as he scored the game-winning goal with just 9.2 seconds left on the clock in the extra session. The play was set up after an outstanding defensive stop by sophomore Reiken Bechtel.
Senior Kaleb Mains, who led all scorers with four goals on the night, had forced the overtime period with a game-tying goal with 4.8 seconds left in regulation.
The victory improved Emmaus’ overall record to 7-8 on the season. The one-goal game was the fourth of the season for the Hornets who are 2-2.
Senior Gabe Chies had a five-point night (2g/3a) to lead the Hornets offense while freshman Dylan Maloney added a pair of scores. Between the pipes, senior Jack Sullivan was busy making a career-high 23 saves. At the faceoff X, junior Colin Garrett had big night winning 17 of 24.
Solehi had seven different players score goals in the loss. Senior Cole Mack led the offense with a five-point night (2g/3a), sophomore Otto Young had a four-point effort (2g/2a), while junior Matt Smith added a pair of goals. The Spartans dropped to 6-6 on the season.
Emmaus will be back in action for an early 10 a.m. start time on Saturday at home at Memorial Field as they host Berks County foe Governor Mifflin in a non-league game.
