>> Trailing rival Central Catholic 8-1 heading into the fourth quarter, Emmaus put a scare into the defending state champs as they found the net five times in the final 12 minutes of the game, but the spirited comeback fell short as the Vikings were able to escape rainy Memorial Field with a 9-7 victory on Tuesday night.
Emmaus, the only team to defeat Central Catholic a year ago (8-7), got down early and had to play from behind all night long, but they certainly made things interesting late fighting back to get within two goals late before the Vikings were able to hold on for the victory.
The Hornets lost for the second time in their last three games as they dropped to 5-2 in the EPC and 9-4 overall. Central Catholic, meanwhile, remained unbeaten improving to 7-0 in the league and 10-0 overall.
Sophomore Liam Rooney led the Hornets offense with a pair of second half goals, while classmate Will Barber, junior Tyler Beson and seniors Logan Mains, Sikander Saeed and Connor Flok also found the back of the net. In goal, sophomore Sam Rainford was under attack for much of the night but played a solid game and finished with nine saves.
The Vikings were paced by senior Augie Barr who had a hat trick. Classmates Liam Drake and Ben Scandone each added a pair of goals, while junior Nick Pomajevich added a goal and an assist. Junior goalie Vincent Probst was credited with five saves.
At the faceoff-X, Emmaus junior Aidan Garrett had a solid effort winning 14 of 23.
The Hornets will look to get back into the winning column at 4 p.m. on Thursday as they have a tough road test at Easton (5-1/12-2).
