A total of seven different players scored goals in Emmaus’ non-league victory over Boyertown on Saturday morning, but no Hornet had quite the effort that Gabe Chies put forward.

It was a memorable performance that the senior won’t soon forget.

Chies tallied four goals to go along with six assists – both career-highs – all part of a career-best 10-point game as Emmaus defeated the Bears 12-11 in a matchup that Hornets head coach Justin Fuhrman described as a “very physical game, with a lot of penalties.”

The Hornets, who were coming off a tough 21-4 loss to rival Central Catholic on Tuesday, had trailed 11-10 with three minutes left in regulation but were able to rally with a pair of goals and then run out the clock and celebrate the victory.

With the win, Emmaus improves to 6-7 overall and it also marks the first time that the Hornets have won a non-league game after going winless in their previous four.

Senior Kaleb Mains, who earlier this week reached a personal milestone with his 100th career point, added his 26th and 27th goals of the season in the win, while freshman Alex Younker also added a pair of scores. Another freshman, Dylan Maloney, also had a big game with a four-point effort (1 goal/3 assists).

In goal, senior Jack Sullivan “was huge” according to Fuhrman coming up with a career-best 15 saves. At the faceoff X, junior Collin Garrett won 14 of 25.

Emmaus will be back in action on Tuesday at 4 p.m. as they travel to Moravian Academy (5-4) for a non-league game.
