RECAP >>  A slow start by Emmaus was the difference on Saturday morning at Memorial Field as the Hornets tasted defeat for the first time this season, a 5-3 non-league defeat to Wilson from Berks County.

The Bulldogs, who entered play with an 0-2 mark after a pair of losses to Owen J. Roberts and Downingtown West, came ready to play from the early 10 a.m. opening whistle as they led from start to finish in picking up their first win of the season.

Senior midfielder Dylan Garber led the offense as he scored two of his team’s first three goals in the opening quarter as Wilson built a quick 3-0 lead. Junior midfielder Spencer Thanga added a goal and an assist in the win, while freshman attack Carter Brensinger had a game-high two assists.

Emmaus, which was held scoreless at half for the first time this season, finally got on the scoreboard with 4:21 left in the third quarter as senior Connor Flok scored the first of his two goals.

Flok’s second goal in the fourth quarter got the Hornets to within two, but Emmaus couldn’t complete the comeback as they dropped to 3-1 on the season.

Wilson outshot the Hornets 10-6 in the game and dominated at the faceoff-X winning 8 of 11. Senior goalie Brayden Skipper was outstanding in the win for the Bulldogs making seven saves, while his counterpart, sophomore Ben Rainford suffered his first loss after making five stops.

Emmaus will look to bounce back when they return to league play on Tuesday hosting Liberty at 6:30 p.m.
