Picking up wins in the non-league schedule has proven to be a challenge this season for Emmaus.

Heading into Friday’s matchup at home at Memorial Field against Pine Richland from Western Pennsylvania, the Hornets were winless (0-3) and had been outscored 32-11.

Things didn’t get much better for head coach Justin Fuhrman’s team as they found themselves playing from behind all night, this time against an opponent who had to travel five hours to the Lehigh Valley.

Pine Richland, who competes in the WPIAL (Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League) got off to a blazing start with the game’s first four goals and then used a 5-0 run late to defeat the Hornets 13-6 in the first-ever meeting between the two schools.

Senior attackman Rowan Foster was a matchup problem all night for Emmaus as he scored six goals to lead the Rams, who won for the third straight time in improving to 4-3 on the season.

Sophomore Nick Jones also had a big game with four goals — two coming in each half. Between the pipes, sophomore goalie Chris Lentz picked up the win allowing just one goal in the second half.

For Emmaus, which had battled back from six-goal deficit in the second quarter to trim the Rams lead to 8-6 early in the third, seniors Kaleb Mains and Jewlien Torres each led the offense with two goals. Freshman Alex Younker and sophomore Anthony Attar added solo tallies for the Hornets who dropped to 4-5 on the season.

Senior Jack Sullivan got the start in goal for Emmaus before junior Logan Schissler took over late in the second half.

At the faceoff-X, junior Colin Garrett won 10 of 19.

Emmaus will return to action next week with three games on the schedule: Tuesday (at Nazareth) followed by home games on Thursday (vs Liberty) and Friday (vs Boyertown). All three matches will start at 6:30 p.m.
