RECAP >> Playing on the road Saturday morning at District 3 power Wilson, Emmaus trailed by a four-goal deficit early in the fourth quarter before putting together a furious rally to tie the game and force overtime.
But in the extra session, it was the Bulldogs that were able to withstand the Hornets comeback as they scored the game-winning goal from their leading goal scorer junior Cohen Renninger 1:14 into overtime to pull out the 11-10 win.
In the defeat, Emmaus got an outstanding individual effort from junior Will Barber who scored a career-high seven goals. Barber is now just five away from 100 in his career.
Senior Aidan Garrett also had a big game for the Hornets in helping lead the comeback with 10 groundballs and winning 10 of 17 at the faceoff-X. In goal, junior Sam Rainford also stood out with 20 saves for the Hornets, who suffered their first loss of the season in dropping to 3-1.
Wilson (4-1) was led by Renninger who scored a team-high five goals. Teammate senior Carter Brensinger had a five-point game (3g/2a), while classmate Seamus Bresling had a four-point effort (2g/2a). Senior Jack Weitzel picked up the win between the pipes with 10 saves.
Emmaus will return to action on Monday at 6:30 p.m. as they host Moravian Academy in a non-league game.
