Playing shorthanded with a couple of key players out with injuries and trailing Northampton 1-0 at the half, Emmaus pulled out what head coach John Cari called a ‘scrappy win’ on Friday afternoon at home, as the Hornets rallied for a 2-1 victory over the Konkrete Kids.

Senior midfielder Mohamed Hassanali saw action for the first time this season after returning from an injury and wound up scoring the game-winner in the second half as Emmaus remained unbeaten in both the EPC (7-0) and overall (8-0), while handing Northampton (6-1) its first loss.

The Konkrete Kids, the defending EPC champions, had taken a 1-0 advantage at the half as Sebastian Mello converted on a penalty kick before the Hornets got the equalizer in the second half on sophomore Gabe Reyes’ sixth goal of the season.

For the match, Emmaus outshot Northampton 6-4 and held a 9-2 advantage in corners. In goal, junior Gavin Yartymyk picked up the win making three saves, while his cournterpart, Ryan Nahf, made four stops.

The Hornets will return to the pitch with three games this week: Bethlehem Catholic (Tuesday @ home, 6:30 p.m.), Freedom (Thursday away, 7 p.m.) and Easton (Saturday @ home, 4 p.m.).
