RECAP >> Playing in its first game of the regular-season on Friday, Emmaus found itself in an unsual position at home at Memorial Field down a pair of goals to Whitehall at the half.

But a pair of second half scores and two scoreless overtimes were enough to earn head coach John Cari’s team a 2-2 tie against the Zephyrs.

Senior forward Bryan Flor and sophomore forward Ryan Kiernan both scored in the second half for the Hornets, the two-time defending District XI Class 4A champs. In goal, senior Ty Bleiler was credited with three saves.

For Whitehall (1-0-1), senior Ziyad Atiyeh had a goal and an assist.

Emmaus held a slight advantage in shots on goal (7-5) and corners (4-3).

The Hornets will return to action on Monday at 4 p.m. as they travel to Bethlehem Catholic.
