Recap >> The three-time defending District XI Class 4A champs have gotten their season off to a good start with a pair of shutout wins in the last three days.
Last night, Emmaus got all it could handle from upset-minded Liberty in its home-opener before a nice-size crowd at Memorial Field, but a second half goal from junior Ryan Kiernan proved to be the difference as the Hornets held on for a 1-0 victory in a game heard LIVE on www.easternpasportsnetwork.com.
Kiernan, the team’s leading goal scorer a year ago (14 goals), headed home a beautiful cross from classmate Marcus Puentes in the 56th minute and then Emmaus held off a late Liberty rally.
Statistically, neither team was able to put many shots on goal with the Hornets outshooting the Hurricane 4-1 in the game. In goal, senior Max McGrath posted the shutout.
Earlier in the week, Emmaus made the long trek to East Stroudsburg North and came away with a 4-0 win in the season opener played on Monday.
Kiernan had a pair of goals in the win while senior Owen Moyer and sophomore Callum Harvey also found the back of the net.
Emmaus will return to action on Friday at 3:30 p.m. as they travel to Whitehall.
