Emmaus’ dominance in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference (EPC) continued on Saturday afternoon as the Hornets defeated rival Central Catholic 3-0 at Cedar Crest College.

Head coach John Cari’s team remained one of two unbeatens in the league (8-0) – along with rival Parkland – by winning its eighth straight game, all by shutout. The Hornets have outscored their EPC foes 43-0.

Kai Mattern scored a pair of goals in the win. The junior scored his second goal of the season in the first half and later added his third to give Emmaus a 2-0 lead at the break. For his efforts, Mattern was named the SportClips Player of the Game on the LIVE broadcast on The Eastern Pa. Sports Network.

Senior midfielder Ethan Ervin came off the bench to score his third goal of the season for the lone score in the second half.

Defensively, the Hornets were once again strong with seniors Eli Pennell, Preston Eshelman and Dahlin Allport along with junior Brayden Dang all playing solid games in front of senior goalie Colin Wilson who recorded three saves.

For the match, Emmaus outshot Central Catholic 5-3 and held a 6-2 advantage in corners.

Central Catholic dropped to 4-4 on the season with the loss.

Emmaus will return to action on Tuesday as they host Pocono Mountain West at 6:30 p.m.
