Boys soccer – Reinhardt, Hornets knock off defending state champs Cumberland Valley for the second consecutive season 2-0

Talk about starting your season off with a bang.

Friday’s road contest against the defending Class 4A state champs, couldn’t have gone any better for head coach John Cari’s squad.

Facing the perennial District 3 power on its home field, Emmaus posted an impressive 2-0 shutout win in Mechanicsburg.

The victory marked the second consecutive season that the Hornets have defeated the Eagles. A year ago, Emmaus rallied for a 3-2 win at home handing Cumberland Valley its only loss of the season.

The Hornets scored a goal in each half and held the home squad off the scoreboard as they improved to 1-0 on the season.

Junior midfielder Aleksander Przybylski wound up scoring the only goal Emmaus would need as he scored his first career goal with under two minutes left in the half off an assist from classmate Canyon Reinhardt for a 1-0 lead.

Following halftime, the Hornets would pick up a big insurance goal in the 54th minute as Reinhardt found the back of the net making it a 2-0 advantage.

Each team had five shots on goal. Senior goalie Gavin Yartymyk played all 90 minutes in net picking up the shutout win for Emmaus.

The Hornets will return to action on Tuesday at 7 p.m. as they open up Eastern Pa. Conference (EPC) action traveling to Whitehall.
