Emmaus, the No.1 ranked team in the state in Pennsylvania Coaches Association (PVCA) Large School Division and the No.18 team in the country according to USA Today, continued to roll through opponents this week as they remained unbeaten on the season.

Head coach John Cari’s team improved to 11-0 overall and 9-0 in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference this past week after outscoring the opposition 22-0 with shutout wins over Pocono Mountain West (5-0), Dieruff (7-0) and most-recently, Pleasant Valley (10-0).

Seniors Jacob Groh and Andrew Gaines led the Hornets in scoring during the three-game stretch as each player tallied five goals. Groh, the team-leader with 10 goals on the season, had a hat trick in the team’s win over Pleasant Valley on Saturday morning, while Gaines, second on the team in goals (eight) also had a pair of scores and two more in last Monday’s win over Pocono Mountain West.

Junior Patrick Walsh also had a pair of goals in the win over Pocono Mountain West and added his seventh goal of the season yesterday as did classmate Hudson Peck. Another junior, Marco Silva, had two goals on the week, sophomore Holden Brown scored his first two varsity goals of his career, while junior Nathan Romig, sophomore Jack Lawrence and senior AJ Febbraro returned from an injury to also score his first goal of the season on Saturday.

Emmaus, which has outscored its opponents by an incredible 44-5 margin, will return to action on Monday at 4 p.m. as they travel to East Stroudsburg South (4-4-1 overall/EPC). The Hornets will also host rival Central Catholic (5-5/5-4) on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. before closing out the week with a road contest at 3:45 p.m. on Friday at Northampton (4-6/3-6).
