Hornets suffer rare loss to Easton, 3-2 in overtime
RECAP – Emmaus had its six-game unbeaten streak snapped on Monday night at Easton High School as the Red Rovers pulled off a rare win over the Hornets, 3-2 in overtime.
The loss marked the first time since 2013 that Easton had defeated the Hornets, that also being a 3-2 overtime win in the Lehigh Valley Conference semifinals at J. Birney Crum Stadium. The Red Rovers hadn’t defeated Emmaus in the regular-season since a 2-1 overtime win back in 2009 at Easton.
The Hornets dropped to 5-2-1 in the league and 6-3-1 overall. Easton, meanwhile, won for the first time in its last three games and improved to 4-3-2 in the EPC and 4-4-2 overall.
Easton had taken a 1-0 in the match with a goal in the 10th minute of play before the Hornets tied the game at 1-1 on senior Callen Reid’s second goal of the season on a header off an assist from junior defender Thomas Hanvey.
The Hornets then struck eight minutes into the second half to take a 2-1 lead as senior Justin Llado found the back of the net with his fourth goal of the year off an assist from junior midfielder Eric Johnson.
But Easton would respond with the equalizer in the 59th minute of play forcing overtime where they eventually won it.
Hunter Radowitch-Ambearle, Dat Pham and Zach Stergio scored the Red Rovers goals. Tyler Pastula picked up the win in goal.
The Hornets played without sophomore goalie Chris Buck who is out with an injury. Backup senior Alex Tomasello was credited with four saves.
Emmaus will look to get back on track on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. as they return home to Memorial Field to take on a one-loss Pleasant Valley team.
