RECAP >> Emmaus sophomore Sean Jaeger opened up defense of his District XI Class 3A singles title on Monday at Lehigh University by cruising to a pair of first and second round victories.

The Hornets No.1 player, undefeated on the season (16-0), had an easy time advancing to the quarterfinal round after a pair of straight set wins (6-0, 6-0) over Southern Lehigh’s Krishna Annanbhtla and Whitehall’s Nick Demjan.

Jaeger moves on to the next round on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at Parkland High School where he’ll take on the Trojans Ankit Lenka, the No. 8 seed who survived a tough three set match against Liberty’s Jacob Wong. Jaeger already owns a win over the Parkland sophomore defeating him in straight sets 6-0, 6-2 back on April 16.

Should Jaeger get by Lenka, he would advance to the semifinals later in the day to take on either No.4 seed Pleasant Valley’s Josh Schaffner or Whitehall’s Nick Rohn.

The finals are set for 2 p.m. on Thursday back at Lehigh University.

Jaeger’s teammate, fellow sophomore Quinn Erk, the Hornets No.2 singles player, dropped his opening round match and was eliminated from the tournament after falling to Schaffner in straight sets 6-2, 6-0.

Wednesday’s other quarterfinal round match-ups include: No.3 Gabe Knowles of Nazareth taking on No. 6 David Lynn of Liberty and Lynn’s teammate, No.2 Louis Gruber facing No.7 Andrew Nicolae of Nazareth.
