After having lost twice to Whitehall a year ago, including in both the EPC and District XI tournaments, the Hornets had revenge on their minds last night as the two teams met in the league opener inside the Emmaus Aux Gym.

Head coach Jon Wilson’s squad, which entered with momentum coming off a season-opening three set sweep at Central Bucks West on Saturday, got the payback they were looking for as they defeated the Zephys 3-1 (26-24, 25-13, 24-26, 25-13).

Leading the way for the Hornets was senior outside hitter Lucas Mondin who had 10 kills to go along with 14 digs. Classmate Colin Holden added 10 kills, while fellow senior Brayden Dang and junior Cameron Furniss each added eight. Junior setter Ben Skekel dished out 35 assists to go along with nine digs for Emmaus, which improved to 2-0 on the season.

For Whitehall, sophomore Jayden Haik led the way with 11 kills. Junior Elias Kamhia had seven kills and nine digs, and classmate Omari Ratliff added six kills. Sophomore Kole Moyer handed out 25 assists to go along with eight digs and two aces, while senior Brandon Bird had 17 digs and three assists.

The Hornets will return to action on Thursday at 5 p.m. as they travel to Easton.
