It was a successful coaching debut for first year head coach Jonathan Wilson and the Hornets last night in their Eastern Pennsylvania Conference opener at Whitehall as Emmaus swept the Zephyrs in straight sets 3-0.
“I’m happy with how consistently aggressive we were in the match,” said Wilson, who was hired back in early January to take over the program from Jeff Elsea. “Not a ton frazzled us and Whitehall gave us no room to ease off the gas throughout all three sets.
“It was another step forward for us as team to help us go the distance this season.”
In the win, junior Colin Holden led the offense with eight kills, while seniors Cael Kratzer and Jametric Harris had seven and six kills, respectively.
Senior setter Cooper Henseler dished out a game-high 31 assists to go along with a team-best eight digs and senior Kyle Long added seven digs. Junior Jackson Holden was the team’s best server on the night with two aces in the match.
With the victory, Emmaus improved to 2-0 overall on the season and 1-0 in the EPC. Whitehall dropped to 0-1.
The Hornets will return to action on Thursday at 7 p.m. as they travel to Governor Mifflin for a non-league game.
