The Emmaus boys volleyball team will be aiming for its third straight title on Saturday when they head to Easton Area Middle School to compete in the 2019 Red Rover Invitational.
Now in its 20th year of existence, this year’s field consists of 15 teams –EPC opponents Easton, Nazareth, Bethlehem Catholic, Whitehall, Allen and Northampton along with Council Rock South, Central Bucks East, North Penn and Central Bucks South from the Suburban One Conference, District 2 opponents Crestwood and Lake Lehman and Academy of Palumbo and Haverford. The 15 teams will be divided into three brackets of five.
Action gets underway at 8:30 a.m. with matches being held inside the main and auxilliary gymnasiums at the school. Pool play will consists of two 25-point games beginning at 4-4 with a 27-point cap on all games. The top two teams from each pool will advance to the playoffs. All playoff matches are best-of-3 with a deciding game to 15.
Emmaus will compete in the ‘Black Pool’ in the auxilliary gymnasium against Northampton followed by Central Bucks South, North Penn and Haverford.
A year ago, the Hornets defeated Council Rock South in the championship match, sweeping the Golden Hawks in straight sets (25-8 and 25-13). In 2017, Emmaus swept the host school, Easton, to win its first title.
