RECAP >> The Emmaus boys volleyball team opened up their much-anticipated season last night at home by sweeping Whitehall 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-13) in their Eastern Pennsylvania Conference opening match of the season.
Senior outside hitter Logan Dougherty and junior outside hitter Cael Kratzer led the offense for the Hornets with each player registering seven kills, while junior middle hitter Jametric Harris was next with five. Junior setter Cooper Henseler dished out 28 assists. Senior libero Zach Baus led the defense with 15 digs.
“I thought we perfomed well but we did identify some key deficiencies that we will have to work on,” said Emmaus head coach Jeff Elsea. “Cooper stood out as being able to make plays happen when it was not the best pass.
“We also need to engage our middles more I feel to be truly successful so we will be working on that prior to our next game.”
Whitehall dropped to 0-1 with loss. The Zephyrs were 18-4 a season ago but lost a number of key players to graduation including the league’s MVP Torrey Tyson along with Aiden Sommer, Tommy Buskirk, Devin Donatelli and Gavin Fasolka.
Emmaus will return to action on Thursday at 6 p.m. as they host Governor Mifflin in a non-league match.
