Cox finishes first, LeBlanc second as Hornets roll in season-opener

The Emmaus golf team got its 2018 season off to a good start on Monday afternoon on its home course at Brookside Country Club (Par 71) as the Hornets rolled over Central Catholic, Freedom and East Stroudsburg South.

Head coach Mo Bryan’s team turned in the low round of the day firing a team score of 410 ,some 47 shots better than the next best finisher, Central Catholic which had a team score of 457. Freedom was third finishing 64 shots back (474), while East Stroudsburg South was a distant fourth (591).

Emmaus sophomore Michelle Cox fired the low round of the day as she fired a 5-over 76. Cox shot a 39 on the front nine and 37 on the back, just missing tying her career-low round of 75 she shot last year in a match vs Stroudsburg at Shawnee.

Teammate, freshman Aiden LeBlanc, finished second overall just two shots back with a 7-over 78 in his first career varsity start, while sophomore Sean Jaeger was fourth in the field with a 12-over par 83.

Freedom’s Jacob Haberstumpf was third with a 10-over 81.

The Hornets will return to the links at 2 p.m. Tuesday as they play their first road contest of the season taking on Nazareth, Pocono Mountain East and East Stroudsburg North at Buck Hill Golf in the Poconos.
